Lagos Assembly Impeaches Speaker Mudashiru Obasa

The Lagos State House of Assembly has impeached its Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, following allegations of multiple statutory and financial infractions.

The impeachment comes barely a month after Obasa faced accusations of allegedly spending a staggering ₦17 billion on fixing a gate leading to the Assembly premises.

In a swift transition, Obasa was replaced by his deputy, Mojisola Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency 1. Mrs. Meranda, a former Chief Whip of the House, now assumes the role of Speaker.

Mojeed Fatai has also been appointed as the new Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Obasa has been embroiled in a series of controversies over alleged questionable financial dealings, which ultimately led to his removal.
